Emergency room doctors at Albany Medical Center are crediting rookie officer Luke Deer with reacting properly and administering CPR to the man, a 33-year-old with a history of cardiac trouble.

Deer and officer Stephen Sayer responded to a report of an unresponsive man along Putnam St. near Second Ave., police said. It happened on Thursday, February 13 around 5:40 p.m. When they got there, they found the man in the street not breathing. Deer immediately conducted CPR until emergency crews got there. The unidentified man is still listed in critical condition.

Deer just graduated the from the police academy in January. All police recruits become certified in CPR while attending the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Academy.
