The Knicks and Indiana Pacers series has seven games written all over but the Knicks need more the just Carmelo Anthony to get there. If Amar'e Stoudemire is going to play then he needs to contribute when he's on the court. I know he's rusty fr being out, but he was awful in game 3. You can give J.R. Smith a fee pass for his lousy performance because he was sick. But at some point the Knicks need to quit making excuses and give Carmelo some help or they won't make to a game seven.

The UAlbany men's lacrosse team, even though they are the No. 14 seed has a legitimate shot of upsetting 4th seeded Denver in Denver on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The two teams are similar, because they both can put a lot of points on the board. If the Thompson trio shows up and produces the way they have all year and if the Great Danes can step it up defensively, they are more than capable of pulling off the upset. With only sixteen teams trying to win a nation title anything is possible.

I am sure George Karl does not care all that much about being named coach of the year in the NBA, especially after his Nuggets got bounced in the first round by Golden State. But, overall Karl did a great job in Denver this season and he is without question one of the top coaches in the game and I thought the honor was well deserved. If you have followed Capital District sports for an extended period of time, you know that George Karl used to coach the Albany Patroons and was regarded during his time here.

There is no way David Ortiz can possibly continue his early season tear for the Boston Red Sox, but even half of what he is doing would work for a Red Sox team that has jumped out to a fast start. Big Papi is healthy, in the right frame of mine and absolutley crushing the baseball right now. Ortiz is hitting right like he did 10 years ago. He won't hit .426 the rest of the season, but his productive start has been fun to watch

Normally a game two is not considered a must win, but Tuesday is a must win for the New York Knicks. If they go down 2-0 going to Indiana on Saturday, it will be a long uphill climb against the Indiana Pacers. The Knicks don't matchup well against a very physical Pacers team. We all know Carmelo Anthony carries the Knicks, but if their going to even the series, Tyson Chandler needs to play a whole lot better.

The UAlbany men's lacrosse team has been nationally ranked most of the season, and there is no reason to believe they can't make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. Head coach Scott Marr has a special group led by the incredible play of the Thompson trio. It might be a little too early to talk about a national championship but the way this team has played this season and a resume that includes roads wins at powerhouse programs Syracuse and Johns Hopkins, why not?

You can make a strong case for Florida Derby winner Orb the 7-2 morning line favorite in Saturday's Kentucky Derby or Verrazano the 4-1 second choice, but my pick is Normandy Invasion. Yes, the pick is based partly because of trainer Chad Brown from Mechanicville who I would like to see win the biggest race of the year. But Normandy Invasion has trained well and has a big shot with 12-1 odds. Normandy Invasion is a closer, and I envision jockey Javier Castellano to come flying in the stretch and get Normandy Invasion home first, setting off a wild celebration in the winners circle for Chad Brown.

There is nothing better than Kentucky Derby week because it signifies the start of the horse racing season and it also means the Saratoga racing season can't to be far off. I will give you the winner on Friday, but in a 20 horse field anything is possible, which is why you gotta love the Run for the Roses. It's a great betting race and you don't need to be an expert like my friend Tim Wilken to cash a big ticket.

If Tim Tebow wants to play in the NFL this season he needs to play a position other than quarterback. It's as simple as that. There are no teams willing to sign Tebow to a contract to play quarterback, but if he would consider another position he could remain in the league. The Patriots would be a great spot for Tebow but he won't budge. It's quarterback or nothing at all. Witch means Tebow will wind up playing in the Canadien football league, and there is nothing wrong with that.
